1. Ezra Grimm
2. Postmaster Malown

Last updated 2022-12-05

With the patch 8.2 Azeroth opened the gate of a new pet battle dungeon: Stratholme.
To start this journey, head to Radek Fuselock for the horde side or Tizzy Gearjolt if you're from the alliance. Mind that the dungeon is only for characters of level 120 or above.

Reports of sinister machinations lead us to Sean Wilkers, a paladin who keeps company to us during this expedition and later will function as this dungeon's pet vendor for the following pets:

Ziggy
Crypt Fiend
Shrieker
Gruesome Belcher

Your first playthrough grants an Ultimate Battle-Training Stone as usual, and the following runs in the Challenge Mode reward the new currency Cleansed Remains which is used to buy pets. Note that these pets are not tradable, so you have to work for them.

Furthermore as a novelty to pet battle dungeons there are two special bosses within Stratholme: Ezra Grimm and Postmaster Malown.

1. Ezra Grimm

works like a rare boss in the form of a world quest, meaning that there is a low chance for him to spawn randomly. She appears in stage 7 of the dungeon, right behind the Risen Guard and beating her awards an additional Cleansed Remains. However if you are really eager to get this currency you can leave the dungeon prematurely and progress to stage 7 again until she spawns. But be warned: she is a tough opponent!

To fight

2. Postmaster Malown

you first have to make him spawn. In order to do that find and right-click a letter that is laying hidden inside the dungeon. Once you've done that go the mailbox at 57.8 13.6 (in the vicinity of Nefarious Terry) and he'll appear. Now you have 20 minutes to fight him. After that time Malown will disappear. Beating him rewards you with the achievement Malowned and the pet Burnout.

There are multiple points where the letter can spawn, though it's not guaranteed it will be there.
If you are using TomTom you can copy those coordinates to find the letter:
/way 68.9 54.0 Letter
/way 59.7 40.6 Letter
/way 56.9 50.8 Letter
/way 57.8 36.9 Letter
/way 40.2 10.4 Letter
/way 48.6 24.9 Letter
/way 57.8 13.6 Mailbox
Xu-Fu can scan this section for the most suitable strategies according to your preferences and show the required pets.
The Regular option will allow using pets multiple times.
Heroic mode will use each pet only once due to the restriction of no healing.

Heads up that if you get DC'd after clicking the letter, even if you can keep doing the dungeon, clicking the mailbox does nothing. Went back and looked for the letters again just in case but no luck

Yesterday I could enter, but today, I keep getting kicked out after performing 6-ish rounds. Message; you have been removed from the group. Pretty weird since it's a one-man dungeon:( Anyone had this at hand earlier, or even today?

Liadrin

wrote on 2020-11-05 13:52:41

I've entered and left the dungeon at least 30-ish times today and have yet to see the letter a single time in any of the first three spawns. Or any other feasible place for that matter. I will never understand why all the 'fun' things must be RNG-based. >.<

Unless they like...stealth "fixed" (or broke) it so you only get one shot per week at spawning Postmaster. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that was the case.

Edit: Thankfully, I found the bloody thing at the last spot before the final set of bosses. Of course, then absolutely none of the posted strategies worked and he despawned, leaving me to angrily hunt down this damn letter AGAIN next week. Wth is he even *on* a timer in the first place? So dumb.

Edit 2 (to avoid spamming): I have run this dungeon enough times to get *all* of the rewards, and yet I have never once seen Fras Siabi spawn. Hate when "low chance" feels like "no chance in hell". (edited)

After I've completed it and the letter didnt spawn how do I re-enter without it being heroic mode?

Edit: nvm just found out you can only do it once on normal (edited)

Rakenessa wrote on 2020-04-24 13:42:31

Has something changed? A lot of these fights are now not working for me, including staff picks and 4/5 star strats.

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-04-24 16:11:17

If something had changed to make strats fail, we would be seeing many comments about it. We aren't. Try examining what happ[ened in a battle in detail. Ideally, copy the battle log, examine it, and EXPLAIN what went wrong IN DETAIL, and make a comment under the strat that failed. Someone will investigate. (edited)

I completed this dungeon for the first time and during my 'normal mode' run I encountered and beat Fras Siabi - but didn't get any cleansed remains for beating him. Is this just because it was the first normal run, and I hadn't earned any cleansed remains yet? At the end of the run I got the achievement and quest rewards but no extra cleansed remains.

Also this dungeon was way more tolerable and fun than Gnomer and Deadmines. I'm really happy for that. (edited)

kathie wrote on 2019-11-10 07:53:32

If you find a letter and put it in the mailbox, is it a 100% guarantee that he'll spawn or is that RNG too? Because I found a letter, put it in the mailbox and he didn't spawn.

DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-11-10 12:53:43

If you've already completed it, he won't spawn again. Otherwise, a discarded letter plus clicking on the mailbox should spawn him.

I started late on this one... wanted to grind pet levels for backup just in case. First clear I found the letter after clearing the scenario and going back. Second week I managed to get lucky with Fras. I'm wondering though if it's possible to encounter both of the bonus encounter bosses in the same scenario?

Xandrie wrote on 2019-09-06 15:11:33

Yes, it's definitely possible to get both Malown and Fras Siabi in the same run. I got both, the first time I went in....and thanks to the pain others went through before me (those who have created strats here), I was able to beat them both.

Made 2 trips around the perimeter of the dungeon as well as the cart in the middle zoomed all the way in checking between every crack and crevice by every crate and barrel. No letter. I think I'm one of the unlucky ones. I'm sure if I reset the dungeon I might find it, but I don't think the letter is there every time.

I have been through the entire dungeon 10-15 times looking around every crate and have not been able to find it. I'm guessing this means that it does not spawn every week, Wish there was some way to know for sure that I didn't just miss it!

I see many strategies require moths: do they require a new set of moths each time or they can be reused in multiple fights in challenge mode? Trying to figure out if I need to collect additional pets.

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-06-13 16:42:09

Ah, I see Schlumpf has done a themed series with moths. :)

I haven't tested, but I think it's safe to say that you will mostly need fresh moths for each battle. The moths will take some damage or die as they go.

However, there are 23 Species of moths sharing the same movesets, and an awful lot of people have collected many of them as part of their Safari achievements, so there will be plenty to serve as reinforcements.

schlumpf#2707

wrote on 2019-06-13 17:06:14

Yeah, the moth Strats are mostly just shit Strats for the fun of it, demonstrating how easily some fights can be done. Most of the time, unless otherwise noted as "you will one-moth this", all of them will die. There are indeed quite a lot of different moths so you might actually manage to clear it with using all those moth Strats.

If there are other alternatives, I suggest not to use moth Strats unless I explicitly noted them to be amazing. Tommy and Huncher for example are super safe and easy moth ones.

Please note that there multiple alternatives for **all** fights, so nothing in here *requires* moths.

Mukuro wrote on 2019-06-14 10:20:12

Thanks for the answers. I was unsure since in Gnomeregan you could get a lot of mileage out of the Emperor Crab + Soul of the Forge combo, so many encounters had the same composition but you would not need multiple pets. I though there might have been something similar going on with the moths strats.

woofpup87

wrote on 2019-06-28 09:20:41

I've found having an entire stable of moths to be a most useful addition to my pet collection. I have them all and they are all level 25.

Toenail

wrote on 2019-06-29 03:30:38

I have lots of moths, flitters, etc, but only 1 (2?) i have are S/S. i want to diversify a bit in case more would be better, even if not needed for this dungeon

Gráinne

wrote on 2019-06-29 05:24:06

By all means, diversify any pet that has the same moveset across multiple species. S/S is often not ideal for flyers anyhow. You obviously want a H/H White, P/P Yellow, and S/S Silky, but after that look at the stats possible, not just the breed, because different base stats mean a range of possible results even for the same breed.

Kimberleigh wrote on 2019-06-27 23:36:15

Make sure you don't pass the plagued critters, otherwise the gate will close and you can't get back to them.

Look up Cymre Jones on YouTube. She posted a video yesterday showing a runthrough.

Apart from the rats-in-the trap bit, which is cute, it's pretty much same ol', same ol'.

DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-05-08 12:12:16

It's shorter than Gnomer, I'm thinking. I've never done a timed run in Gnomer, but for Strat I ran it at around 20 minutes using teams pre-loaded in Rematch, their corresponding scripts, and wasting no time starting the next fight.

gsanta

wrote on 2019-06-21 12:23:54

That's good. Gnomeregan usually took at least 45 minutes in the same setup, so this sounds quite a bit faster. I do wish the pet dungeons had an overall optimal setup more along the lines of Celestial tournament for no reuses, but not sure how that would be implemented.

Jozee

wrote on 2019-06-27 09:20:44

It's an enjoyable dungeon with pretty easy fights imo. Took me 27 mins with rematch teams and no scripts. Good luck :D

If you did Gnomeregan, you'll be offered the introduction quest by the same NPC (the ones with Mana-Poof on their side in Boralus or Dazar'alor). Then you go to Eastern Plaguelands and to the side entrance of the Straholme dungeon.

And I hope we are clear that you'll not find this on live servers right now, this is 8.2 content so you'll have to wait for 8.2 release or test in on PTR.
