Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

I think we've established that "Ca-Caw Ca-Caw" and "Tookie Tookie" don't work.

Similar strat using same # of turns and carrying 2 pets (gives 435 exp unbuffed for each level 1 pet):
H/H Iron Starlette
1 Wind-Up
2 Wind-Up (If it crits, move to step 4)
3 Toxic Smoke
4 Toxic Smoke
5 Explode

Would this be best in a new strat post?

just a minor tweak to the script ... if your not using a leveling pet in the leveling slot it skips the standby line ...

standby [ round=1 & !self.level.max]
change(#2)
use(Powerball:566) [ round=4 & self.power<341 ]
use(Supercharge:208) [ self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]

I had this fail for me for the first time ever post-patch. It worked subsequently. I was just shocked as this was an anomaly.

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-11-02 02:24:47

A great many strats people come up with - probably more than half - CAN fail to something like a string of crits. A crit on a specific move is a 5% chance, 1 in 20. Two crits on specific moves is a 0.25% chance, 1 in 400. But it's a chance.

Then, user rankings tend to favour those strats that are simple, use common pets, and have a low fail rate, so a lot of users never see failures. Until they do. :P

I'm always amused by these low-probability failures; it's like seeing someone reacting to being almost struck by lightning - but without the genuine harm, ofc. :)

9.0 Pre-patch: team and script works fine.

Burzolog wrote on 2018-10-04 23:38:23

The script seems to make the leveling pet use whatever it's first ability is in round 1, which is very awkward if that ability takes more than one round.

Wyrdrune

wrote on 2020-05-22 14:04:12

Correct, that's due to the last line of the script: "ability(#1)", you could replace it with "standby" to have the leveling pet pass the turn instead. In order to count as having participated in the battle the first pet has to have done something. Switching to another pet does not count in this regard. A level 1 pet has only 1,-,- available. Were you stating a theoretical problem, or using a level 10+ battle pet in the slot with 2,*,* selected as abilities? (edited)

(OP) Lazey

wrote on 2020-05-24 07:16:02

In the steps, I had a note that it has to be a 1-turn-only ability but you're right, scripts can't check for multi-turn-abilitys so I made the suggested changes.

Standard Note to those who leave unhelpful comments like "It didn't work" with no details.

There are several people who investigate reports of problems with strategies on Xu-Fu's. There are designated Strategy Curators, and other regulars who read comments and are interested in the latest.

In my experience, when people leave a short "It didn't work" note, they usually made a mistake. Maybe they used a pet with the wrong Speed, maybe they didn't do a Pass where it was indicated, sometimes they were even using the team and strat from a completely different battle. :)

Sometimes there genuinely is a problem with the strat. This is where the Curators and others come in, checking the strat for weaknesses, and fixing it or removing it if it can't be fixed.

Since most failure reports with no details are wrong, it's not good to waste people's time investigating them. Instead, help them by providing the information they need.

If the strat failed for you, and you want your comment to be taken seriously:

1. Specify EXACTLY which species and breeds you used. Make sure all your pets were Rare (Blue).

2. Specify whether you read the strategy from the site and executed it manually, or downloaded and used the tdScript.

3. Specify EXACTLY where the first unexpected thing happened, the first thing that deviated from what the strat predicts. What died too early? What didn't die when it was supposed to? What attack missed?

4. If possible, provide a log. You can see your log in the Pet Battle tab of your chat box. You can pull that out, make it bigger, screenshot it. Better still, you can use the addon PetBattleLogKeeper: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/petbattlelogkeeper from Curseforge, and do /pblk and Save Battle when the battle you want to log is complete.

Almost any strat can fail to a really unlucky string of crits, and some difficult challenge strats like the Family ones may fail more than anyone likes, but the people behind this site do their best to promote well-working strats.

Do your part. Provide useful information.

In this case, I've been using a Starlette on this battle since the start of BfA, with not even the remotest thought of a chance of failing, so I'm very sceptical. (edited)

wrote on 2020-05-22 14:44:02

Regarding:
1) you might want to add the rarity to what people should specify about their battle pets.
4) After some searching, I think you mean PetBattleLogKeeper: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/petbattlelogkeeper ? Going to give it a try, even though it seems to be abandoned (nearly two years since last update)

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-05-22 17:39:05

It's not abandoned, exactly. Just not under active development, since it still works fine.

You can also do Ancient/Corrupted Nest Guardian (1/1/2). Extra Plating (0/1/0) then keep pressing Wind-up (0/0/2). Bloodtusk will kill your pet, he will resurrect, then press Metal Fist (1/0/0)

Kay

wrote on 2018-11-15 11:39:41

Works well. Since this fight gives so little XP I like to put my almost level 25 in the first slot. I tried with broom strat and fail most of the time depending on what that 1 attack leveling pet has. This one works better.

Line 4 of the TDScript is defunct. There is no point putting 'ability(Wind-Up:459)' and immediately following it with 'ability(#1)' when Wind-Up is in slot 1 anyway.
It works exactly the same like this:

change(#2) [ round=2 ]
ability(Powerball:566) [ round=4 & self.power<341 ]
ability(Supercharge:208) [ self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
ability(#1)
